Welcome to Washoe County ARES®/RACES!

ARES and RACES logos

Welcome to the Washoe County ARES/RACES (WCARES) website. WCARES serves the regional Reno-Sparks-Incline Village area of Northern Nevada.

Our mission is to develop and maintain the leadership and organizational structure necessary to provide radio communications support to Emergency Management, Public Safety, and other public service agencies during emergencies or other times when normal communications systems are overloaded or have failed.

When all else fails...

We strive to enhance the reliability, quality and professionalism of Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) personnel through the establishment of training and performance standards, and the supervision and management of WCARES' Amateur Radio operators and resources.

Washoe County ARES/RACES pledges a commitment to preparedness and service in the protection of public health, safety and welfare by encouraging innovative leadership and individual responsibility, which enhances the reliability and excellence of Amateur Radio emergency communications.

WCARES' New Mobile Communications Vehicle (ECOMM-1)

Washoe County ARES/RACES encourages Amateur Radio operators to excel in all facets of emergency communications (emcomm) and recognizes those who exemplify our emcomm philosophy.

WCARES is always looking for volunteers who desire to support emergency radio communications. If you are interested, please visit our Join page, look over the membership requirements and fill out the registration form. One of our membership coordinators will contact you for an initial phone interview.
